Driving Sustainability through Data - Carbon Footprint Declarations

Data plays a crucial role on MacGregor’s sustainability roadmap. We leverage Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) to gain insight into the environmental impact of our products throughout their entire lifecycle. The resulting Carbon Footprint Declarations (CFDs) provide transparency on emissions, helping our customers make choices that lead to decarbonization. While LCAs and CFDs alone do not make products more sustainable, they offer the clarity needed to implement effective carbon reduction actions. 

Life Cycle Assessment 

Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) provide a comprehensive evaluation of a product’s environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle, from raw material extraction to end-of-life. MacGregor has invested in building the expertise to implement LCAs across its main product range.

Through LCAs we can better understand the environmental impact of our products, and they offer valuable input into our decision-making. This enables us to optimise material selection (raw material) and production processes, targeting carbon reduction during manufacturing, transportation, usage, maintenance and end of life throughout the product's lifecycle. LCAs provide crucial clarity on where carbon emissions are created, giving us the data needed to make decisions that lead to real decarbonisation actions.

The LCA results show where changes can be made to reduce carbon emissions. This empowers us to make choices that directly affect decarbonisation, whether through process improvements, material changes, or usage optimisations. LCAs help identify inefficiencies, leading to potential cost savings, while also driving innovation for more sustainable products.

Carbon Footprint Declaration

The Carbon Footprint Declaration (CFD) is the result of the LCA process, summarizing the findings into a standardized format based on the ISO 14067 standard. CFDs present a clear overview of the carbon footprint associated with a product, offering transparency about its environmental impact. This transparency is key, it enables our customers to make informed decisions on how to reduce emissions in their operations. 

CFDs are currently available for our lashing portfolio and are shared upon request or during the sales process. The development of LCAs for other parts of the MacGregor product portfolio. The ongoing expansion of LCAs and CFDs across our portfolio reflects our commitment to providing the clarity and data needed for more sustainable decision-making and impactful carbon reduction efforts.
